Pete Avoids Jail Again

Dohertys sentencing has been deferred until December

Pete Doherty has avoided a jail sentence on several counts of drugs possession.

The troubled Babyshambles star was told by Judge Jane McIvor in court today that his sentence will now be decided on December 4, to give him more time in rehab.

"I'm impressed with the negative results for heroin and cocaine, said Judge McIover. It's a stage I'd never thought you'd reach and the option of re-sentencing you would be counter productive. I'm deferring sentencing for three months until December 4."

She continued: "You have to continue with your rehab and continue your employment, which means co-operation with those who work with you."

The Judge later told the singer that if he can remain off drugs he will avoid a custodial sentence.

Outside the court, Doherty said simply: "I obviously want my life back really."
