Pharrell Williams Rejects 'Out Of Context' Blurred Lines Criticism

Star says the last thing he wanted to do was degrade women with its lyrics and saucy video...

Pharrell Williams has shot down criticism of lyrics in track Blurred Lines, implying the words were "taken out of context".

Speaking to Stylist about the No.1 song - which he mainly wrote and produced for Robin Thicke - Pharrell addressed the negative response to its lyrics and X-rated video, saying: "I'm not surprised because it's the way that media works.

"I'll say this: at the end of the day, you can soundbite things in the Bible and be offended. But I'm sure that's not the writers of the Bible's intentions.

"I'm clearly not comparing my song to one of the most respectful writings I've ever read..."

He continued: "My point to you is, anything can be taken out of context, and although there were models that were topless and there... I'm sorry, read the lyrics.

Williams went on to conclude: "If you know anything about me, and my career, you know how I love women, and the last thing I want to do is degrade."

The Happy singer's comments come after Thicke confessed that Pharrell "wrote almost every single part of the song" in his recent court deposition over claims they ripped off Marvin Gaye's hit Got To Give It Up.
