Pharrell Williams Talks New N.E.R.D Material
“You take your time and you get it right” says the star…
The renowned hip hop star, producer and fashion mogul has enjoyed massive success this year, featuring on Daft Punk’s disco-tinged number one Get Lucky and Robin Thicke’s raunchy hit Blurred Lines, but hasn’t released any material with his own group since 2010.
Pharrell told BBC Newsbeat: "N.E.R.D. is the special thing. You don't just throw that [new music] out there. You take your time and you get it right."
The 40-year-old heartthrob also praised his bandmates, Sheldon Haley and Chad Hugo, adding: "I'm the luckiest guy in the group. Those guys are super cool."
N.E.R.D.’s last album Nothing reached number 83 in the UK charts – and while Williams admits “it's not like we sell all the records in the world,” the group is happy that their fans let them take their time producing new material.
Pharrell continued: "We cherish that. We don't abuse it by just throwing anything out.”
The Everyone Nose hitmaker has collaborated with a number of high-profile artists over the years including Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado, but the star is modest when it comes to discussing his success.
He added: "I'm not one to brag about myself. More than anything else I'm appreciative they knock."
