Pharrell’s ELLE Headdress Cover Causes Controversy
He won't be so happy now after critics pan his latest magazine cover...
The Happy singer is the July special edition cover star for the magazine, and wears the piece in a number of shots inside, however has already faced backlash for it.
Fans have taken to the singer’s Facebook page to tell of their disappointment, with one user saying, “You have no right to wear a headress that is so sacred to native people. Those headresses are earned and not worn to make a buck or draw attention”.
There’s even a hashtag going, #NOThappy, where users are venting on Twitter.
Update: Pharrell has since apologised, telling Buzzfeed: “I respect and honor every kind of race, background and culture,” the singer says. “I am genuinely sorry.”
ELLE UK have yet to comment on the cover.
