Christina Aguilera 'Rejected' Pixie Lott's New Single
Singer explains the story behind her comeback track, Nasty...
Pixie Lotthas revealed that she had to fight to record her new single Nasty after it was 'rejected' by US songstress Christina Aguilera.
During an interview with The Metro, Pixie - who is due to perform the rack for the first time at The Brit Awards 2014 launch event tonight (January 9) - revealed: "It’s a funky, soulful track that is very up-tempo and fresh.
"A few other singers had recorded it and Christina was one of them so everyone wanted this song. When I heard other singers had done it I thought 'I need to get this!'
"It was a difficult song to get because there are so many old-school samples on it, like James Brown, that are hard to clear copyright on. But I got it and now it is my new single."
The blonde babe went on to admit that her romance with model Oliver Cheshire has made the process of recording her new album easier, stating: "It’s my first time writing from the actual experience of being in a relationship. It has really helped.
"I can relate to every aspect of what I’m singing – the good times and the bad times. I love writing about things that I experience. It makes songs greater."
While her 25-year old beau may be the inspiration for her new record, Pixie went on to joke that fans won't be seeing a musical collaboration with Cheshire anytime soon.
The Essex girl claimed: "Oliver can’t sing! He tries. He thinks he is a bit of a DJ and he loves music, but he’s not really a singer. We’ve never even done karaoke. Will he be stealing my thunder? No!’"
You can catch Pixie's performance during The Brits are Coming, which airs on ITV 1 at 10.35pm tonight.
