B: Sov and Lily Just Froth
Plan B talks about the trials of the music industry, and how Lily Allen and Lady Sov are just pop
Plan B has spoken out to MTV.co.uk about why he believes making it as a serious artist in the music industry is getting harder and harder.
"The music business is fickle," he said. "Everyone's loving you when you're up, but I'm not pop, I'm not Lily Allen, and when they find out how hard it is to push someone who's original like I am they lose their passion."
But would he change his sound to sell more records? "I'd change my sound to make my music better. At the end of the day, the way to get more coverage is to write the best album. I'm gonna write something that works on all levels " like Eminem did."
Lady Sovereign has famously cracked the US market recently with her single 'Love Me or Hate Me', but Plan B is not buying into the hype.
"Lady Sovereign better suits the Americans, 'cause they don't know what Londoners are like," he laughs. "Whereas everyone else from over here thinks 'I know better female rappers than her, with better beats, more to say.' Over there they just don't know any better. They just buy what they're told."
Plan B's talking himself into some big boots that will need filling when he gets into the studio after the summer, but with his focus on great music and narrative lead rap, we could be looking at a long and established future
