Plan B Live Review

iTunes Festival - London Roundhouse 26/07/10

As the row over empty Olympic seats rages on in his manor, Plan B packed London’s 100 Club to celebrate his number 1 album with a brutally brilliant show.
Playing the first of Converse's Represent series of nine special gigs at the tiny but legendary venue, Mr Drew set the bar insanely high ahead of upcoming headline performances from the likes of Paul Weller, Blur and Nas.
After sets from up-and-coming soul star Jacob Banks, Malaysia’s Yuna and The Wait singer L Marshall, the crowd couldn’t be warmer, and beatboxer Faith SFX made certain everyone was ready for Plan B by showcasing his incredible talent.
Using his voice alone, Faith can make sounds which drop jaws as he treated the lucky few hundred inside The 100 Club to his versions of Breathe by The Prodigy and Watch The Throne’s awesome Paris.
As Plan B’s band crept in behind Faith ready for the main man to enter, it was time for Faith to welcome the East London hero to the stage.

He began with three big songs from the album that made him a star – Prayin’, The Recluse and She Said off his stunningly soulful The Defamation Of Strickland Banks.
Thanking fans for supporting Ill Manors and talking up the “achievement” of getting a UK hip hop record to the top of the chart, Plan B then played new tracks Deepest Shame and Lost My Way before dedicating Chase & Status anthem Pieces to the dubstep duo’s mental mosh pits.
Faith SFX was back and teamed up with Ben to perform some of their unique covers including Forget About Dre and Ain’t No Sunshine, but the highlight of his superb set was still to come.
With seemingly everyone inside the sweltering venue dripping with sweat, angry Ill Manors sent the crowd crazy as the boy from Forest Gate belted out his political lyrics.
Plan B smashed The 100 Club so it was only right that in his final song Stay Too Long he would smash his band (literally) to the ground and leave everyone smiling – including his battered guitarist laying arse-over-tit on his drummer’s devastated kit.
