Just when you thought throwing out your old PS2 meant saying goodbye to gaming greats like Psychonauts forever, Sony has announced it's making a comeback.

As part of Sony's move to salvage PlayStation 2 games and port them across to the PlayStation 4, the company has announced that Psychonauts will join the games list soon. Leaks had suggested a 7 June release but Sony has now said, on its blog: "Psychonauts is coming out soon, but not this week. Apologies for the error. Stay tuned for final timing!"

Psychonauts was first released in 2005 by Double Fine Productions as a platformer on Windows, Xbox and PS2. The game lets users take control of Raz who escaped the circus to join others with psychic powers to become a Psychonaut spy.

Psychonauts, at the start of the year, raised more than $3.3 million from Fig crowdfunding for a sequel.

For now the porting to PS4 will have to keep fans busy. This will be the 27th game to make the jump from PS2 to PS4. Sony says the emulation of older games on the PS4 is costly so these titles are charged at around $10-$15.

Expect to hear more on the release from the E3 games convention next week.
