Playstation Vita Handhelds: Overheating Probe
Portable gaming device being investigated by Japanese agency...
A Japanese agency is investigating a series of reports of Playstation Vita handhelds overheating during charging.
Sony is reported by IGN to have received 31 complaints from users about the problem, mostly from users in Japan but also from some in North American, Australia and the UK.
Gaming site Andriasang claims that "Sony sent a detailed listing of the various incidents" to the Japanese National Institute of Technology and Evaluation.
"In all cases," it claims, "the problem involved the connection slot between the charging unit and the Vita burning during charging. There have been no reports of injuries."
Sony's Japanese PR department is claimed to have suggested that the issue was caused by liquids or other objects gaining entry to the charging slot.
It has apparently ruled out a recall of the popular device.
