Will PlayStation 4 Be Delayed In Europe?
Sony won't commit to 2013 launch this side of the pond...
Sony has refused to confirm whether its eagerly anticipated new games console, the PlayStation 4, will go on sale in Europe this year or not.
It held a presentation event for the device this week, at which it pegged the launch date as "holiday 2013" - the American term for Christmas.
But Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Jim Ryan later responded to rumours that the launch would happen later this side of the Atlantic.
"We're not saying if 'Holiday 2013' includes Europe at this stage," he told MCV. "We are only saying we will launch the system before the end of 2013, we're not saying in which parts of the world.
"But don't infer anything good or bad from that. You can take that anyway you want, but you shouldn't."
Sony has taken some criticism since the presentation because it did not reveal what the actual console will look like.
But now Sony UK MD Fergal Gara has claimed that the move was deliberate.
"[It was a] deliberate choice to show what it can do, rather than a piece of plastic or a box," he told Digital Spy. "Assume we will have a sleek-looking piece of hardware, but showing that at this early stage wasn't the priority.
"Showing what the gaming experience is going to be, what the possibilities are, and giving a sense of how this machine could perform and deliver great gaming experiences for gamers - that was, by far, the priority rather than what shape is the box.
