Your PS4's Big New Update Makes Games Look Totally Different - In The Best Way

So... beautiful...

If you’ve got a current PS4 console and don’t want to splash out on an upgrade but still want the latest graphics, don’t worry, Sony has sorted you out.

Sony has upgraded the latest PS4 with full HDR graphical support in an update that has just rolled out. The 4.00 update will work on the current PS4 as well as the new slim PS4 and, of course, the still-to-come PS4 Pro.

So what do you need in order to take advantage of the new graphical prowess? Of course an HDR capable television is a must if you want to see the difference on screen. But you’ll also need HDR games capable of displaying the new range of colours as well as the light and dark variance. Shiny!

At the moment Sony hasn’t released anything that can be played in HDR. Before you say it, no, even the streaming apps that offer HDR like Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video don’t yet support HDR on the PS4. Now that this update has landed you can expect those streaming apps to follow soon with their updates to support HDR also.

Sony has already said that PS4 games can be patched so future software updates should make even older titles HDR capable. When that will happen is another question since even game developers seemed shocked at the HDR announcement from Sony.
