Pokémon GO’s New Update Means There’s FINALLY A Good Reason To Catch Loads Of Pidgeys
This new feature makes common Pokémon way more important.
Good news if you catch a lot of the same type of Pokémon - the latest Pokémon Go update is bringing with it some love for all the medal winners out there, at last!
Medals on their own within the game were fine but now that you get more from them, they’re going to be sought after more than ever. You’ll now get Catch Bonus for certain Pokémon elemental types.
The result should be that catching low-level Pokémon now helps you to better catch rarer Pokémon when you come across them. But how? By catching 10 Fire Pokémon and earning a bronze Kindler medal, for example, you’ll get an increased chance of capturing Fire creatures from then on.
There are even more bonuses for silver and gold. That also works for Pokémon with multiple Types but here the game will simply take an average of both medals to work out the Catch Bonus.
The update also means Pokémon Go gyms are a lot more useful. Now you can take in and train up to six Pokémon at a time in friendly gyms. It also means the creatures you fight will have lower CP and strength to better match the Pokémon you have, for fairer fights.
There’s still no sign of the improved AR functionality promised earlier in the year by Pokémon Go creator Niantic, so expect that to come in a future update soon.
