Pokémon Go is taking the world by storm as gamers pound pavement to find augmented reality Pokémon. Now it appears not only Pokémon are being stalked, as muggers reportedly used the game to lure in victims.

Missouri police in the US put out a statement saying that armed robbers had used Pokémon Go to target victims before robbing them.

Pokémon Go involves looking at the real world through a camera and screen while Pokémon are added in virtually, as if they're really there. This augmented reality has gamers out and about hunting for Pokémon to collect.

The statement reads that the robbers used Pokémon Go to "add a beacon to a Pokéstop to lure more players. Apparently they were using the app to locate people standing around in the middle of a parking lot or whatever other location they were in."

Of course the police aren't saying stop leaving the house to hunt for more Pokémon, but simply to be careful. A statement read: "We arrested all four suspects and recovered a handgun. We felt it important for our residents' safety to share what we did know and remind them to be cognisant of their safety and surroundings."
