The attacker is said to have been a 'lone wolf' gunman.
UPDATE 12.15 GMT: The death toll has now risen to over 50 with police reporting that more than 200 people are also thought to have been injured making this the deadliest multiple shooting in US history. The dead suspect has been named as Stephen Paddock and police also say that person of interest Marilou Danley has been located.
At least 20 people have been killed and over 100 injured after a shooting at a concert on the Las Vegas strip.
People were enjoying a performance from singer Jason Aldean at the Route 91 Harvest Musica Festival, an outdoor country music festival, on Sunday evening when a gunman opened fire on the crowd.
Police now say that officers confronted the suspect, who is thought to have been killed, after using a controlled explosion to enter his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, which is across the street from the concert venue.
While they are yet to release the gunman's name, he is said to be a local resident and Clark Country Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said in a statment that they believe this was a 'lone wolf' attack, but that they are now looking for the suspect's companion, Marilou Danley, as a person of interest.
After initial reports of an attack, police closed part of the Vegas Strip and flights from McCarran International Airport were also temporarily halted, but have since reopened.
With police still trying to establish motive, celelebrities are among those reacting to these horrific events.
