Ahh sexism. The insidious little creature that lurks at the back of the room, always watching and waiting for anopportunity to rear it's ugly little head and bring us women back down to groundlevel so that thepatriarchy can stomp all over your hopes and dreams just one (read: 432939291) more times.

But one of themost irritating forms of sexismcomes from those guys and gals who think that it's appropriate to open a sentence with the phrase 'I'm not sexist but...', usually before going on to say something - yes, you've guessed it -massively sexist.

'Spoiler Alert:'Putting thatat the front of a sentence doesn't *actually* make what you're saying inoffensive and exempt from sexism.

Shocking, we know so here's a few examples, just to put the point across and probably fuel your inner hate fire a bit too...

Claim: I'm not beingsexist.

Reality: Yes, you are.

Claim: I'm not being sexist

Reality: So...you are being sexist then. Glad we cleared that up.

Claim: I'm not sexist.

Reality: You are. (Did we miss thepart of the driving test where gender had anything to do with your driving skills?)

Claim: I'm not sexist.

Reality: YOU'RE STILL A SEXIST.

Claim: I'm not sexist.

Reality: Yesyou are.

Claim: I'm not being sexist.

Reality: You're still being sexist.

Claim: I'm not sexist.

Reality: Still sexist.

Claim: I'm not sexist.

Reality: Congrats!We give you a 5 star reviewfor your use of token sexism *****

Claim: I'm not being sexist

Reality: Do you know what else is kinda disgusting? Your sexism, yay!

Claim: I'm not being sexist

Reality: YES YOU ARE. YOU DEFINITELY ARE.

Claim: I'm not being sexist

Reality: Thanks for speaking for girl-kind. Really appreciate having you and your sexism on board.

So in conclusion, maybe don't ever use the phrase 'I'm not sexist but...', because if you do feel the need to use it, chances are you're about to say something verging on the offensive.
