It Turns Out That The Simpsons Predicted Donald Trump's Presidency In 2000
If you thought you had the American people to blame for Donald Trump being elected President of the USA, you would be right. You really do have them - or at least a significant majority of them - to blame.
But it looks like The Simpsons might also have a little to answer for after weirdly predicting this was going to happen back in an episode broadcast in 2000.
Yup, the internet has done what it does best today and since the results came in, has unearthed the eerie similarities between an ep where Trump announces his candidacy - mainly as it featured a scene that weirdly came to pass some 15 years later.
Thought that was weird? IT GETS WEIRDER:
Later in the ep Lisa become the president to follow Trump into the Whitehouse and alludes to his negative effects on the US economy, which frankly seems like a slightly unnerving prediction for what 2020 is going to look like.
Freaky or what?
Speaking about the parallel, Simpsons creator Matt Groening said: "We predicted that he would be president back in 2000 - but (Trump) was of course the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of at the time, and that's still true. It's beyond satire."
"One of the things that occurs to me is the sober writing of political history is impossible for this election. When historians are writing about this election, after all of the other presidents, it's the worst. Just quoting from it would be like a clown show."
