Prince Kicks Off Shows

Purple loving funk god has started his 21 night London residency in style.

Prince has played the first of 21 shows at the O2 Arena and gave the crowd well over two hours of hits.

The Sign O The Times singer and multi instrumentalist played the 20,000 capacity venue in London and performed FOUR ENCORES.

On opening night fans heard classics including Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret and Little Red Corvette. Prince- formerly a squiggle- also covered Gnarls Barkley's Crazy and The Beatles' Come Together.

The small star has rehearesed 150 songs for the residency in the capital and will change the set list at each gig. When he announced the shows Prince also said he hoped Amy Winehouse would appear with him.

The Greenwich venue will also host aftershow parties in its IndigO2 space.
