The British actor is most famous for being Ali G, Borat and Bruno, but will now portray the flamboyant frontman for his next project.

Cohen has been linked with the role for a few years while Johnny Depp was also previously rumoured to be playing Freddie.

The film companies behind the new Queen film have already licensed a number of the band’s classic hits to include in the flick.

Peter Morgan- the scriptwriter behind The Queen, The Damned United and Frost/ Nixon- will pen the movie.

Filming is expected to begin in 2011. Baron-Cohen’s last film Bruno took over $130 million worldwide.
