Benicassim 2013: Queens Of The Stone Age

REVIEW: Josh Homme's Queens reign supreme on first night of festival...

Desert rockers Benicassim.

With four phenomenal frontmen topping the Beni bill with their bands over the next four nights, guitar god Amy Winehouse's Rehab as he built-up to the final explosive chorus.
Their most-loved track No One Knows really got everyone going as the third song in their flawless set, while epic closer A Song for the Dead (sounding as badass as ever) started with Homme puffing on his cigarette in near total darkness.
Banter: "We came a long way to party with y'all" said the giant frontman, and so had a lot of British and Irish who joined the Spanish in what he called "one big happy family".
But Homme wasn't happy when he noticed fans at the front being stopped from getting on shoulders: "It's a Queens of the Stone Age show, you can do whatever the f**k you like! Be good to the ladies." And when the security turned around and saw the sheer size of the man, they wouldn't argue back.
Sweat Factor: Even at 2am, it was still very warm. There wasn't a dry t-shirt in sight.
Summary: Josh Homme's amazing guitar playing melted faces and his Queens were on fire. An incredible performance from the rock band of 2013.
