R&B heavy hitter heading for court on very serious charges
The trial for R&B singer R. Kelly on child pornography charges will finally begin next month in Chicago, a Cook County judge has said.
It has been five years since the 40-year-old Grammy Award-winning musician was charged with 14 counts of child pornography for allegedly videotaping himself having sex with a girl prosecutors have said could be as young as 13.
Judge Vincent Gaughan said jury selection will begin September 17, with the trial expected to last about a month and attract international media attention.
In unrelated R Kelly news; Kelly's infamous Trapped in the Closet" series looks likely to continue with 10 new episodes, according to Billboard.com.
Trapped in the Closet was released two years ago and became not only a substantial hit but a cultural phenomenon. With its convoluted storyline, multiple characters and bawdy plot twists, the series marked hip-hop's first attempt at a rock opera - a hip-hopera.
Leaked to radio and television in dribs and drabs over several months the instalments also served to keep Kelly in the public eye well before and after his album TP3.Reloaded came out.
