R.Kelly Court Records Sealed
Judge denies motion from news organisations seeking access to sealed court records
The infamous R. Kelly child pornography trial has taken another twist after the judge presiding over the case refused to release sealed court records and transcripts to the media.
Judge Vincent Gaughan also refused to lift a gagging order forbidding lawyers from talking about the case.
The judge said he was not trying to inhibit the press but had been forced to take the measures to ensure a fair trial.
Kelly, 41, has pleaded not guilty to charges he videotaped himself having sex with an underage girl, and faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
Jury selection in the R&B singer's trial finished this week. Opening arguments begin Tuesday.
