Radiohead Drummer Pledges Support For Samaritans
Radiohead's Phil Selway has pledged his support for a Samaritans campaign, aiming to encourage young people to volunteer.
The campaign, which was launched today, is based around the idea of 'extreme listening' - a concept which links listening to music with listening to people. Both are powerful vehicles which allow people to express their feelings and emotions.
"I was nineteen when I became a Samaritans volunteer, so age wasnt a barrier," said Phil Selway. "The only experience you really need is in listening effectively, and your Samaritans branch will prepare you for that."
"Focussing on somebody elses feelings can make you forget your own problems for a while."
