Rage Beat X Factor's Joe McElderry to Xmas No.1

Rage Against The Machine have been crowned this years UK Christmas No.1 with their single ‘Killing In The Name’ beating that of X Factor winner Joe McElderry.
 
After a fiercely contested battle, RATM’s single sold 500,000 downloads, selling around 50,000 more copies then the young X Factor winner.
 
Husband and wife, Jon and Tracy Morter played a huge part in the RATM victory creating a social networking campaign aimed at getting RATM to number one and preventing the X Factor winner from taking top spot.
 
The X Factor head honcho, Mr Simon Cowell was "gutted" at losing the battle but full of praise for the entrepreneurial music pluggers Joe and Tracy, "I am genuinely impressed by the campaign they have run…” Cowell told the Daily Mirror.
 
"I offered them jobs at my record company. It could be in marketing or perhaps even running the company!”
 
Joe McElderry was a gracious loser - congratulating the band on their victory: "Fair play to the guys who have organised the Facebook campaign - it's been exciting to be part of a much-hyped battle and they definitely deserve congratulations."
 
In an official statement, Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) announced that if the band pipped Joe, they would hit UK shores sometime in 2010 for a massive free ‘thank you’ gig.
 
Cheekily RATM have also vowed to invite 2nd Place finisher, X-Factor and music mogul Simon Cowell, to MC the show!
