Rebel Wilson Apologises After Claiming To Be The First “Plus Size” Rom Com Lead

Queen Latifah, Mo'Nique, Melissa McCarthy...

Christmas is practically right around the corner, which means constant reruns of The Last Holiday, a festive rom com film starring Queen Latifah. A plus size actor.

Rebel Wilson is now apologising for comments she made during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, in which she stated that she’s the "first ever plus sized girl to be the star of a romantic comedy" in her upcoming film.

But stars like Mo’Nique and Queen Latifah have appeared in rom coms throughout their careers, leading casts in huge hits such as The Last Holiday, Phat Girlz, and Beauty Shop to name a few.

When being called out for her choice of words on Ellen, Rebel then went on to block the critics because she was “hurting” from the criticism.

Now the Pitch Perfect star has taken to Twitter to explain her actions and apologise for not showing “the proper respect” to those who came before her and forged a path for actors of all shapes and sizes to slay regardless.

"In a couple of well-intentioned moments, hoping to lift my fellow plus sized women up, I neglected to show the proper respect to those who climbed this mountain before me likeMo'Nique,Queen Latifah,Melissa McCarthy,Ricki Lakeand likely many others," she explained onTwitter.

"With the helpof some very compassionate and well-thought out responses from others on social media, I now realize what I said was not only wrong but also incredibly hurtful."

"To be part of a problem I was hoping I was helping makes it that much more embarrassing & hard to acknowledge,” she continued. “I blocked people on Twitter because I was hurting from the criticism, but those are the people I actually need to hear from more, not less.”

“Again, I am deeply sorry,” she finished up with.

Rebel also apologised directly to Mo'Nique after the comedian called her out for letting the industry erase previous actor's hardwork.

"Let's please not allow this business to erase our talent with giving grey areas and technicalities," she tweeted in response to Rebel's comment. "Take a moment and know the history. DON'T BE A PART OF ERASING IT. I wish you the best."

"Hi Monique, it was never my intention to erase anyone else's achievements and I adore you and Queen Latifah so so much," the Bridesmaid actor responded with. "Isupport all plus size ladies and everything positive we are doing together."
