5 Really Weird Things You Can Do In Red Dead Redemption 2
It's so close we can almost taste it.
Just one more day - ONE MORE SLEEP! - and we'll get our clammy, excited hands on 2018's most anticipated game - Red Dead Redemption 2.
But before you jump in, here's our pick of the most incredible, weird -and incredibly weird! - things you need to know about Red Dead Redemption 2...
1. You can ride 19 breeds of horses…
Maybe this shouldn't come as a surprise given the depth of cars available in Rockstar's other headline franchise, Grand Theft Auto, but there are 19 different breeds of horses to choose from in Red Dead 2, and all have very different skills and characteristics. And don't forget, you'll need to build up a trusting relationship with your preferred steed before they'll let you get too close, too, so expect to spend a lot of time with them.
2. …and their balls shrink in the cold
This sounds made up, we know, but it really isn't. Apparently, the game's graphics and mechanics will be so realistic that the horse's testicles will shrink in cold weather. Do we need that kind of realism in games? I'm not sure… but Rockstar reckons we do, so let's go with it.
3. You'll get long hair and upset the townsfolk if you don't keep groomed
Rockstar says "time also has an effect on Arthur's hair, which will grow longer over time. Customizing Arthur's haircut and facial hair styling is also dependent on length since you're allowed to cut things shorter, but won't have access to anything that requires more hair -- a more realistic take on personal grooming compared to GTA V." So if you fail to keep yourself groomed and tidy, and the townsfolk will be less cooperative and judge you for it. Incredible!
4. You can hunt loads of animals… but the meat will go off if you're not careful
There are said to be over 200 different species of animals, fish, and birds in Red Dead 2, which means you'll spend a lot of time on the range not just taking on enemy cowboys, but also the wildlife, too. There'll be realistic foodchains, and the animals will respond differently to different environments. So far so good, right? But there'll also be decaying corpses, too, so if you don't clean up your messes - both human and otherwise - the meat will spoil and go off. So don't bother keeping that rib-eye for a special occasion… eat up now, cowboy!
5. You need to be careful with your gun: the more you use a gun, the better it'll be… until it starts to get old
Degradable weapons aren't anything new, granted, but Red Dead 2 is special because it takes into account how old and how much use your weapon has had. Rockstar says "the more a gun is used, the better it will perform, but it will also start to degrade over time if not looked after"... so if you have a favourite firearm and you don't want it to fall apart, make sure you take care of it by cleaning and oiling regularly.
Red Dead Redemption 2 releases worldwide on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018.
