Witherspoon On Arrest: 'I Told Cops I Was Pregnant'
Star admits she said some 'crazy things' during the incident...
Reese Witherspoonhas opened up about her recent arrest, revealing she told police she was pregnant.
As we previously reported, the Water For Elephants actress was charged with disorderly conduct after hubby Jim Toth was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Atlanta on April 19.
Addressing the incident during an interview of Good Morning America, Witherspoon once again apologised for her actions, explaining: "It was one of those nights, you know."We went out to dinner in Atlanta and we had one too many glasses of wine and we thought we were fine to drive, and we absolutely were not. And it's just completely unacceptable and we are so sorry and embarrassed, and we know better and we shouldn't have done that."
Reese went on to describe Toth's decision to drive as "bad judgement" and insisted that it will "absolutely never happen again".
She also addressed a series of "crazy" comments she made during her arrest, recalling: "I have no idea what I was saying that night.
"I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked and I said all kinds of crazy things. I told him I was pregnant - I'm not pregnant. I said crazy things. And if you hear me laughing, it's only because I have no idea what I was talking about.
"I am so sorry. I was so disrespectful to him and I have police officers in my family, I work with police officers every day. I know better and it's just unacceptable."
The 37-year old added that the hardest part of it all was telling her children about what happened, claiming: "We have to say, 'When you make a mistake you take responsibility and we are taking responsibility and doing everything in our power to make it right'.
"You just have to be honest with them. That was definitely the hardest part."
Speaking of what the episode has taught her, Witherspoon added: "When a police officer tells you to stay in the car, you stay in the car. I learned that for sure.
"You know, I think I've played a lawyer in movies so many times I think I am a lawyer, and clearly I am not a lawyer because I got arrested! No, yeah, I learned a lot."
TMZ has since reported that Reese has pleaded 'no contest' to physical obstruction of another, while Toth pleaded guilty to DUI.
During a court hearing on Thursday (May 2), Toth was told he must complete 40 hours of community service and attend an alcohol education programme. He was also put on probation for 12 months.
The judge is quoted by the website as saying; "Consider yourself fortunate you didn't injure your passenger [Witherspoon] and didn't kill anyone."
Reese - who was ordered to pay a $213 fine - was not present at court.
