You'll Never Guess Which Punk-Rock Band Foals' Yannis Blames For His Rebellious Teen Years…

They even inspired him to dye his hair blue...

Next in line for the Relentless Ultra Presents Soundchain treatment are Oxford five-piece, Foals.

The indie-rock band reveal all to our host, Nick Grimshaw, about their past, present and future through music.

Thinking back to the start of their love of music, Grimmy quizzes two of the band, Yannis Philippakis and Jack Bevan, about their first memories.

He asks: "What was the earliest music that you remember getting on your own with your friends and really loving?"

Reminiscing about his love of punk-rock, Yannis says: "I had a mate that made me a cassette mix, and on one side it was 'Bleach' by Nirvana and the other side it was 'Smash' by The Offspring."

He continued: "I remember the first time I heard that I was like, I'm dying my hair green, I'm never answering a teacher respectfully again, I'm never gonna do my homework. It set me on a path to being a difficult young man."

Admitting that he dyed his hair blue instead, the band's frontman jokes with Grimmy that it was entirely The Offspring's fault that he became a rebellious teenager. We suspect the legendary punk-rock band would be pretty proud of this.

Foals started out their journey in a very different way as cult math rock band The Edmund Fitzgerald, adding that the only people that turned up to their shows were hipsters stroking their beards.

Drummer, Jack, admits that when that band started to disintegrate they decided they wanted to do the complete opposite, and with that Foals was born.

"The beginning of Foals was us wanting to have fun and write short simple songs that were our idea of pop music" Yannis adds, and we sure are glad they made that change.

Don't miss the full episode of Foals' Soundchain, this Friday at 11pm on MTV Music.
