Review Of The Year Part 3
The Live Earth and Diana concerts take place plus Amy ends up in rehab and Lily's banned from the US...
July
The start of July was dominated by two huge concerts at the re-opened Wembley Stadium. Both Live Earth and The Concert for Diana came in for criticism and their were definitely lack lustre moments.
For us Kanye West, Nelly Furtado and Lily Allen were Diana highlights. While a week later The Beastie Boys and Foo Fighters brought some class over from the States.
Also in the month Britney finally get her divorce papers through and split from K-Fed for good. Kate Moss finally had enough of Pete Doherty and kicked him out after he pulled a fan!
August
As Prince started his triumphant run at Londons 02 Arena Amy Winehouses problems got worse. She had a massive drugs overdose early in the month after reportedly taking a cocktail of drugs. A few days later both Amy and her husband Blake were in Rehab being treated for heroin addiction.
Kanye West reached number 1 with the first single from Graduation which sampled Daft Punk- Stronger. Lily Allen meanwhile was banned from the US when she tried to get in for live shows. Were sure she didnt help matters by calling George Bush a f***ing c**t.
Troubled Britney meanwhile had shaved her head off but proved she could still cut it musically when her rather great comeback single Gimme More leaked to the internet.
September
Klaxons deservedly won the Mercury Music Prize for their debut album and got up to collect their award in a very drunken state. They slurred: The Mercurys are about pushing music forward and we believe thats what we did!
The MTV Video Music Awards kicked off in Las Vegas when Kid Rock had a scuffle with Tommy Lee over their ex-wife Pamela Anderson. Britney also had her now infamous car crash performance of Gimme More- which didnt go very well.
Also in September Kanye beat 50 Cent to the top of the album charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
