Jurassic Park star and director, Lord Richard Attenborough has died, aged 90 (August 24).
BBC News confirmed the sad news of the filmmaker’s death after being notified by his son.
The acclaimed actor and brother of Sir David Attenborough had a seasoned career in film including a breakthrough performance in Brighton Rock and later as John Hammond in Jurassic Park.
The peer whose biopic, Gandhi, earned him two Academy Awards also served as fourth president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
The organisation joined many others in paying tribute, releasing the statement: "Lord Attenborough occupies a special place in the hearts of so many and will be missed enormously. Our thoughts are with his family, to whom we offer our deepest sympathy at this sad and difficult time.”
David Cameron and Jurassic Park collaborator, Steven Spielberg were among the many in mourning, with the director praised Lord Attenborough’s passion and friendship, saying: "He was a dear friend and I am standing in an endless line of those who completely adored him.”
