Rihanna Declined Super Bowl Halftime Show To Support Colin Kaepernick

So they DID ask her...

Every year, since at least 2012, fans have screamed aloud for Rihanna to be chosen for the nextSuper Bowl halftime show.

A prestigious platfiorm only offered to the most legendary of musicians, from Madonna and Michael Jackson to Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, it cannot be given to any old gal with a few streams on Spotify.

Therefore, we always scratched our heads at Rihanna never gracing the world-famous stage yet, as her peers Katy Perry, Gaga and Justin Timberlake have gone on to do so before her, but there's a very good reason for that.

She has the most versatile and successful discography of her generation, with eight albums'worth of solo material and a bunch of Number 1 collaborations, not to mention the many iconic looks from over the years, so it goes without saying that a Rihanna Bowl would be legendary.

However, something we may forget is thatartists are not required to say yes to all offers and Rihanna makes decisions based on her own terms, which is why she declined the Super Bowl.

“The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta,” a close insider has revealed to US Weekly. “They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.”

US Weekly were the first to break that Rihanna was offered the 2019 halftime show slot, now occupied by Maroon 5, however she rejected it to stand by Colin Kaepernick, the American football quarterback who has essentially been put out of a job by the NFL after kneeling during the national anthem in protest for Black Lives Matter in 2016.

Rihanna will sit this one out in protest of the NFL's national anthem policy and treatment of Kaepernick, despite the exposure it would have brought to her next album campaign.

“The offer and exposure would have been great for Rihanna as she’s planning a new album and tour but she stuck to what’s right in her eyes,” an insider told Entertainment Tonight.

The Super Bowl halftime show is more of a confirmation that you've made it than a requirement to being a superstar, and Rihanna is one of the biggest superstars in the world.

Beyond the music (although we need that new music, Rih!), from Fenty Beauty to her acting career and fashion lines, she doesn't need the Super Bowl to launch an album, which means she wins either way, right?

We admire Rih for always doing what she believes is right and are impatiently waiting for her to throw the Rihanna Bowl the same week to give us all the performance we deserve.
