Rihanna Stops The Wanted From Hitting No.1

As Noel Gallagher beats X Factor's Matt Cardle in the album chart...

Rihanna has managed to fight off some tough competition from The Wanted, as We Found Love scored a third week as the Official Singles Chart No.1.

Despite Tom, Jay, Max, Siva and Nathan's new track Lightning being ahead in the midweek chart, RiRi returned to the top spot with her Calvin Harris collaboration, meaning The Wanted lads had to settle for second place.

The X Factor continues to have an effect on the countdown, as Charlene Soraia's Wherever You Will Go climbed five places to No.3 after hopeful Sophie Habibis performed the track on last week's show.

Kelly Clarkson scored this week's second highest new entry, as her new single Mr Know It All made its chart debut in sixth place, while Lana Del Rey's Video Games also entered the top ten at No.9.

Elsewhere in the Official UK Album Chart, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds stopped last year's X Factor champ, Matt Cardle, from reaching the summit, as Cardle's Letters LP debuted in second position.

Gallagher sold 40% more than Matt's first record, as the former Oasis star also beat his brother, Liam Gallagher's solo efforts - almost doubling what Liam achieved with Beady Eye and their LP, Different Gear, Still Speeding in March.

The likes of Steps, Adele and Katy Perry also feature in the top ten, as veteran crooner Daniel O'Donnell bagged this week's third highest new entry with The Ultimate Collection in seventh place.
