New Music Round-Up: Rita Ora, Liam Payne, Justin Timberlake and More
Bruno Mars, Cardi B and Kendrick Lamar are also back with new tunes...
This is how you do a soundtrack single. Cinematic synths? Check. Dramatic lyrics? Check. Massive vocals? Check. After making a triumphant return to music in 2017 with three Top 10 singles, Rita reminded everyone that she is a superstar and it looks like she has no intention of slowing things down this year. Not only is 'For You' one of her best releases to date but it also sounds like it could be the international hit that she deserves. Liam's runs complement Rita beautifully too. A victory for both artists.
There's no denying that Cardi is the star of the moment right now. Every single or feature that she releases is filled to the brim with personality and 'Finesse (Remix)' is no different. Cardi opens it up with one of her most fun verses to date 'It's my big Bronx boogie, got all them girls shook (shook) // My big, fat ass got all them boys hooked (hooked)' and Bruno is on hand to deliver his unmatched vocals. It's an infectious old-school banger that will no doubt become one of the biggest singles of the year.
If two all-star collaborations weren't enough for you to get excited about music in 2018, Kendrick Lamar and SZA are here to provide a third. 'All the Stars' is the lead single from the Black Panther soundtrack, which Kendrick is producing, and it's gorgeous. The single isn't as hard as much of Kendrick's solo material but his word-play is on full show and SZA's ethereal vocals take the track to the next level. Seriously if K.Dot and SZA wanted to release a collab album, we'd be first in line to buy it.
Justin Timberlake - 'Filthy'
Justin Timberlake is back with the lead single from his first album in almost five years and it's as good as you'd expect. Reunited with production legends Timbaland and Danja, 'Filthy' sees Justin return to the mature sound of 'SexyBack' and put a modern spin on it. 'Filthy' is a throbbing, sexual bop reminiscent of Jamiroquai. The 'Mirrors' star is releasing a single each week before his album Man of the Woods drops on February 2nd. After listening to this, we can't wait to hear more from him.
Chloe x Halle - 'The Kids Are Alright'
Ever since they released their debut EP in 2016, Chloe x Halle have proved themselves as masters of stunning music with heavenly harmonies and lush production. Co-written with Diana Gordon, 'The Kids Are Alright' may well be their best single yet.
BØRNS & Lana Del Rey - 'God Save Our Young Blood'
Lana Del Rey is the perfect partner for BØRNS on this laidback pop masterpiece.
Charlie Puth - 'If You Leave Me Now (feat. Boyz II Men)'
Charlie Puth gets soulful with some help from the kings of the genre Boyz II Men.
Arlissa & Jonas Blue - 'Hearts Ain't Gonna Lie'
Jonas Blue updates Arlissa's standout single with some chart-ready production.
Superorganism - 'Everybody Wants to Be Famous'
A brilliant rumination on love and fame by eight-piece group Superorganism.
Kid Ink - 'Tell Somebody'
Kid Ink returns with his catchiest hit yet. It's made to be played on repeat.
Cupcakke - Ephorize
Cupcakke is relentless. Ephorize is her third album in three years and it features bars worthy of her best. From the touching opener '2 Minutes' to the tongue and cheek 'Duck Duck Goose', the LP proves that Cupcakke is one hit away from superstardom.
