Riverdale ‘When A Stranger Calls’ Recap: Betty Cooper Is The Black Hood’s Very Own Puppet

We’re only five episodes deep into Riverdale season two but things are already at season finale levels of intense. What with the Black Hood causing absolute havoc for poor Betty Cooper, and Jughead having basically joined the dark side, nothing’s going well for Archie and the gang.

So let’s recap everything that happened in When A Stranger Calls, including THAT unexpected (but also quite expected) kiss.

1. Betty Cooper is doing the Black Hood’s work and it’s terrifying…

PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER, BETTY. The Black Hood has Betty in the palm of his hand and the outlook isn’t good. She’s already cut ties with Veronica, Jughead and her own mum, so what next?! When will it end?! We can’t handle this storyline for an entire season.

2. Who does Nick St Clair think he is? Either way, he’s a dead man walking…

While we loved the idea of Nick St Clair on paper as potential drama for Varchie, in reality he’s actually just a really awful person. Like, the worst kind. And after drugging Cheryl Blossom it looks like Betty is using her BH powers and has put a hit out on him. Bye, Nick.

3. Jughead is a Southside Serpent now and we’re feeling conflicted…

After spending most of this episode wearing a vest taking part in challenges that shouldn’t even be legal, Jughead Jones is now an official member of the Southside Serpents. And now that Betty (in his eyes) has dumped him, it’s not looking great. At least the vest is alive and well.

4. Toni, Jug and Betty are in quite the pickle…

Okay so now that Toni has done what she wanted to do since she first laid eyes on ‘Juggy’, things are all kinds of complicated. The two shared their first kiss in this very stressful ep and we’re not sure sure if Betty is going to be all too pleased when she inevitably finds out. It’s all very Ross and Rachel if you ask us.

5. Has the Black Hood turned Betty Cooper into his very own protégée?

The moment Betty slips on that black mask we got actual real life chills. What exactly is she capable of? When will she finally tell everyone what’s going on and let them help her? WE HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS.
