You’d think that when Charles Melton told his family that he’d got the role of Reggie Mantle on Riverdalethey’d be over the moon for him.

Only his dad’s reaction was in fact anything but supportive, but in that jokey way that only the guy who raised you could get away with.

Chatting to Teen Vogue about what he said when he phoned with the ridiculously exciting news, he explained that while his dad is a huge Archie comics fan he wasn’t particularly complimentary.

"Dude, you're perfect for Reggie. He's just a jerk and he's funny, and a prankster. Just be yourself, man." And I was like, "Wow, sweet, dad. I'm a jerk, great. This should be easy,” he explained.

He also teased as to what’s to come for his character, hinting at one ep in particular which he’s looking forward to people seeing.

“There's going be a lot more interaction with the core characters, especially Archie. And you'll see the dynamic and the friendship and the ally that Archie finds in Reggie when it comes to protecting Riverdale after reeling in the whole aftermath, his father being shot.

“I’m pretty excited about everything that we've done so far, specifically I'd say episode four. I'm very excited for that episode.”
