Robert Pattinson has allegedly started travelling with five bodyguards to protect him from his huge fan-base.

According to reports, the security team, originally hired to look after the actor during filming of new flick Remember Mehave now become a regular fixture to R-Pattz’s entourage.

It is thought the Twilight hunk, who shot to fame as vampire Edward Cullen has chosen to keep the security team following an incident in New York’s Union Square where he was almost pushed under a car by a group of fans.

A source stated: "If it hadn't been for the quick-thinking of two members of his team, he could easily have been a goner,"

"He was pushed off the sidewalk by the sheer number of fans who were trying to get close to him and fell against the door of a moving vehicle.”

They added: "If his clothing had got caught or a foot had gone under the car there's no doubt he would have been dragged along and seriously hurt."

Two of Pattinson's bodyguards reportedly managed to pull him back onto the pavement by grabbing his jacket.

"Their reactions saved him from injury and afterwards his face was as white as that of his vampire character Edward Cullen," the source said.

Pattinson is set to hit London on 17^th March for the premiere of Remember Me which sees him starring alongside the likes of Pierce Brosnan.
