Robin Thicke has broken his silence following the announcement that he's separated from wife Paula Patton - insisting he wants to reconcile.

The Blurred Lines hitmaker was quizzed about their split by TMZ photographers when landing in Washington D.C. on Thursday afternoon (February 27), where he replied: "I'm just trying to get her back."

After being probed further, he then added: "We're just trying to figure it out."

Thicke then went on to deny speculation that his twerktastic performance with Miley Cyrus at the 2013 MTV VMAs had any negative effect on his marriage.

Earlier this week, the couple - who had been married for nine years - told People: "We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time."

In wake of their break-up, the singer also cancelled three concerts in the US due to "unforeseen circumstances".
