Commonwealth Games Kicks Off In Glasgow

A string of Scottish stars led proceedings to open the 2014 Commonwealth Games at the opening ceremony last night.

And an estimated one-billion people worldwide tuned in to watch the festivities.

Doctor Who star John Barrowman teamed up with comedianKaren Dunbarto open the show with a musical number celebrating the culture and history of the host nation.

Rod Stewart also took to the stage to perform his 1991 hit Rhythm of My Heart.

Singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald joinedthe legendary rocker on stage for the performance,along with a chorus of Glaswegian volunteers.

Britain's Got Talent singer Susan Boyle led the crowd at Celtic Park in a sing-along of the classic Wings hit, Mull of Kintyre, accompanied by the Scottish Regiment Pipe Band.

Ewan McGregor and Nicole Scherzinger also featured as part of the show.

The Star Wars actor welcomed the thousands of athletes to Glasgow in a pre-recorded message, and introduced the Games' campaign to help children across Commonwealth countries.

Scherzinger also appeared in on the stadium’s big screen as part of the UNICEF campaign before introducing the procession of athletes from the Americas.
