Star Wars' Rogue One Is NOT Getting A Sequel

And there's a surprisingly simple reason why.

Excited for 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'? Of course you are! Well, you better make the most of it when it hits cinemas, because producer Kathleen Kennedy has ruled out the possibility to any sequels to the forthcoming adventure.

That’s largely because Rogue One is a direct prequel to Star Wars: A New Hope, something director Gareth Edwards alluded to by saying that, “a sequel will be directed by George Lucas.” Nice joke there, Gareth, but George has done more than enough…

As Edwards has previously stated, “that text you see at the beginning of 'A New Hope'… that is essentially our movie”. So itmakes sense that the new film won’t be the jumping off point for a new string of sequels, because basically, those sequels already exist.

The new film will follow the exploits of Felicity Jones’ character Jyn Erso, as she leads a rag-tag band of rebel into a dangerous mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. A mission that puts her on a collision course with none other than Darth Vader himself…

Directed by Edwards and co-starring Ben Mendelsohn, Diego Luna and Forest Whitaker, 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' will open in the UK on 15 December 2016.
