Ruby Rose Has Been Cast As The New Lesbian Batwoman
"This is a childhood dream."
Ruby Rose has been cast as Batwoman in the TV show Gotham, and not everyone is on board with the choice.
But celebs like Laverne Cox, Anna Kendrick and Janelle Monáe have all congratulated the star online for bagging herself the role.
Taking to her Instagram, Ruby thanked everyone, telling her followers that landing the role of Batwoman is a ‘childhood dream’.
She captioned the image with: “The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream [sic].”
“This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different [sic],” she added.
And even though the casting of a queer actor in a queer role is incredible, and needed, some people on Twitter just didn’t get it.
But fortunately, the good always (usually) far outweighs the bad, and there’s a tonne of support for the former Orange Is The New Black star.
And the show’s writer, Caroline Dries, tweeted: “We struck gold with @RubyRose for Batwoman. No one better.”
And Ruby’s response melted our hearts: “I struck gold with you guys! Thank you for giving me such an amazing character to play.”
Now it’s just a waiting game until December, and then we’ll get to see Ruby's Batwoman in action.
