Hey Girl, Ryan Gosling Makes Men 'More Accepting' Of Feminism
Apparently the memes that have you giggling on your lunch break actually make a difference when it comes to men and feminism...
It can often be frustrating for women when men don't *get* feminsm, but apparently with a little help from Ryan Gosling and his beautiful face they totally understand!
“We don’t know what it was about him that they liked so much,” said co-researcher Linzi Williamson, a PhD student with the university’s applied social psychology program.
“It could have been they just really admired him or they think he’s a cool dude.”
Either that, or the guys have figured out his feminist views get him the girls, Eva Mendes in particular.
“He’s viewed as sexual competition, so he becomes someone to live up to,” said the study’s co-coordinator Sarah Sangster, also a University of Saskatchewan PhD student.
Tumblr account Feminist Ryan Gosling, which was launched back in 2011 and has seen several books published, actually influenced their initial idea.
The study involved the students showing pictures of Gosling to 99 participants, of which 69 were female and 30 male. Half of the pics featured Hey Girl feminist slogans, and half didn't.
They were then asked to fill in a questionnaire about their feminist views.
Women were generally unaffected, however male participants saw their pro-feminst sympathies boosted by as much as 10%.
We knew he wasn't just a pretty face.
