Queen Vetoed Sacha Baron Cohen's Freddie Role

Singer's surviving bandmates say they didn't want movie to be comedy...

The members of Queen vetoed Sacha Baron Cohen from playing their former bandmate Freddie Mercury in a biopic of the singer's life, they have revealed.
Drummer Roger Taylor is quoted by The Sun as saying that the surviving members of the pomp rock band were concerned that SBC would be playing their late friend's role for laughs.
He said: "We felt Sacha probably wasn't right. We didn't want it to be a joke. We want people to be moved."
He also suggested that the project could now be put on hold, adding: "I thought the music business was slow, but this has been like swimming in treacle... we need to step back now."
And Borat star Baron Cohen's writing partner Dan Mazer explained that [uuid=d53b755c-518a-42fd-afe4-9f814fe0be14]his departure from the movie[/uuid] was probably for the best.
"It probably wasn't a right fit. Sacha is very sure about how he wants to do things. If he felt he couldn't do it the right way then he didn't want to do it."
