Why Does The Internet Hate Sam Smith's Bond Song?
'Writing On The Wall' has proven a little divisive of late...
OK. So 'hate' may be a strong word, but the peeps of the internet don't seem to have Sam Smith's back lately. And to be honest, it's been going on since he was announced as the singer that would perform the theme to the latest James Bond film, SPECTRE.
The internet seem confused and keep comparing him to other singers. He's not Adele, that's correct. He's also definitely not Shirley Bassey - the ledge that sang the theme to Goldfinger, Diamond Are Forever, and Moonraker - the last time we checked.
What's with all the comparisons, can't we just let Sam Smith be Sam Smith?
Twitter's been a bit mean to him recently, despite the fact he's had a helluva year and more success during his short career than many singers get in a lifetime.
Am I the only one who thinks Sam Smith's music is weird af???

Who does Lana have to kill for a Bond theme? "24" from Honeymoon is the best Bond theme in almost 20 years. And yet: Sam Smith.

Some Tweeters in the US claimed not to know who he was, even though he's already WON Favourite Male Artist at the 2014 AMAs. Weird.
Not only that, but THIS YEAR he's won FOUR Grammys, so America must be aware of him.
However, UK peeps obviously know who he is - he's won THREE flippin' Brit Awards and has been massively popular for a while now.
Whether people on the internet are just having a pop at an easy target, we're not sure. Anyone comparing his musicial stature to Shirley Bassey or Adele are a bit daft, if you ask us.
Who knows where the backlash has come from, but it carried on when 'Writing's On The Wall' - the title of the Bond theme he sings - resulted in 'Shirley Bassey' trending on Twitter..

The Bond theme by Sam Smith has to be the worst one ever "bring back Shirley Bassey"

Sam Smiths voice is not suited for a "Bond Theme" Awesome instrumental shame about Sam screeching over the top of it. Hes no Shirley Bassey!

So let's give him a break, yeah? If former James Bond Sir Roger Moore can back him, it's probably the least we can do.
