Sam Smith Apologises To Dustin Lance Black After Oscars Confusion

Glad that’s cleared up then.

Following his big Oscars win on Sunday (February 28), Sam Smith faced a bit of backlash online after he claimed to be the ‘first openly gay man' to winan Academy Award.

One person who didn’t seem too thrilled with that was Dustin Lance Black, who won an Oscar for Original Screenplay back in 2009 – and he seemed to tweet a bit of shade to Sam afterwards.

But now, it seems that the two are all good, as Sam has apologised for the mix up and Dustin has labeled his tweet a joke.

After waking up the next morning (and very probably craving a McDonalds breakfast), Sam posted his response to the online furor.

He explained:

Meanwhile, Dustin also cleared up his side of things, and told the Internet that they shouldn’t take his ‘texting my fiance’ tweet too seriously – he totally meant it in a friend way.

He wrote:

WELL, there you have it.
