Santigold Live Review
Converse Represent at 100 Club, London - 07/08/12
Following sets from New Yorkers Friends and Londoners Citizens!, Best Coast brought some Californian surf pop to the 100 Club before Django Django played a storming, headline-worthy set to a frantically frugging crowd.
The Djangos were a tough act to follow, but from the moment Santi and her SG1 dancers took to the stage with the double blow of GO! and L.E.S. Artistes they demanded total attention.Despite playing with backing tracks rather than a live band, this was still very much a full-on performance, incorporating costume changes, a wealth of props and non-stop (and frankly exhausting looking) dancehall styles choreography. Never have so many people been so captivated by a girl with a mic, a man with a laptop and a couple of dancers armed only with parasols.
Cherry-picking highlights from Santi's two albums, along with the Major Lazer collabo Hold The Line, the set didn't let up once, with a mid-set stage invasion and solid gold smashes such as closer Big Mouth helping to transform the sweat drenched basement into the greatest nightclub in town.
