Eddie Redmayne Named Best Actor At Screen Actors Guild Awards

Eddie Redmayne was rewarded with the best actor gong in recognition of his portrayal of physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last night.

The 33-year-old Londoner beat Michael Keaton in the awards show regarded by insiders as the best predictor of Oscars success.

But although Birdman might have lost out in that category, it made up for it by taking the award for best performance by a movie cast.

And there was more silverware for Julianne Moore - named best actress for her role in Still Alice - for JK Simmons, who won best supporting actor for Whiplash, and for Patricia Arquette for her supporting role in Boyhood.

Mark Ruffalo, Kevin Spacey, Frances McDormand and William H Macy were among the TV acting winners.

And Orange Is The New Black took two awards in the form of best comedy ensemble and best female comedy performance for Uzo Aduba.

There was further British success with a drama ensemble gong for the cast of Downton Abbey.
