Selena Gomez Addresses Demi Lovato's Overdose For The First Time
The 'Back To You' singer revealed she reached out to Demo Lovato personally in an interview with Elle magazine.
When Demi Lovato suffered an overdose in July there was no shortage of people who came out to offer their support to the singer during her recovery. But one person who did not comment publicly is her long-time friend and fellow Disney alumn Selena Gomez, but that doesn't mean she didn't reach out to Demi directly.
And now the 'Back To You' singer has broken her silence on the matter for the first time, confirming she got in contact with Demi personally in a new interview with Elle magazine.
Understandably, Selena didn't go into too much detail, but she did say: "All I'm saying is, I reached out personally. I didn't do a public thing. I didn't want to. I…I love her."
She added: "I've known her since I was 7. So…it's…that's what I'll say." Demi and Selena met when they appeared on Barney And Friends together way back in 2002.
And they were Disney's ultimate BFFs for the better part of our adolescence, tbh, so it doesn't surprise us that Selena chose to reach out to her dear pal in a very personal way.
At the time the news broke it was clear the family were keeping Demi in their thoughts, as Selena Gomez's mum reach out to her via her Instagram account.
She wrote: "This was exactly 10 yrs ago at S, Sweet 16. @ddlovato we love you. The world is a better place because of these infectious smiles. My heart hurts," alongside a sweet throwback picture of Selena and Demi smiling together.
While Selena kept it brief when talking about her close friend, she did open up to Elle about her own current headspace, admitting: "Right now, I feel very sure of where I am. I don't feel erratic or emotionally unstable. Or like I can't handle my emotions like I used to. It's kind of understanding myself a little more. By all means, I don't have myself figured out."
"But it feels good," she added.
