The Selma Cast Chat Oscars, Brad Pitt & John Legend
Turns out the MLK biopic wouldn't have been made without Brad Pitt...
While Selma’s actors and director have been overlooked when it came to Oscar nominations, “Glory” has been nominated as one of the 5 songs who battle it out for the statue.
When we asked the director Ava DuVernay about the song which sees John Legend collaborate with Common, she was full of praise for the rapper, who also had a part in the film as an actor.
Legend and Common have been confirmed as performers on the Oscar stage and DuVernay could not hide her excitement.
“I’m going to try to stay calm as they do the song cos it’s so beautiful and it’s going to be on the Oscar stage which means it’s going to be seen by millions across the world, and I’m just really thrilled.”
It turns out that the powerful biopic would not have been made without the help of Brad Pitt. It took 7 years from main actor David Oyelowo reading the script to the film actually hitting the cinema screens.
When we asked Oyelowo about Pitt, he said: “I think Brad Pitt’s … involvement is why the film got made. Films like this are tough to get made…so when you have someone like Brad…. advocating for it, pushing for it, using their notoriety to get it made, that’s a brilliant use of power and advocacy.”
The 87th Oscars will take place on Sunday 22nd February.
Selma is in UK cinemas from 6th February
