Condom makers extraordinaire, Durex, have announced the newest addition to their flavoured range and… it’s eggplant. Aka aubergine. Aka a condom that tastes like the real life fruit everyone’s fave emoji was based on.

“#BreakingNews: We're launching an exciting new savoury #condom range - Eggplant flavour! #CondomEmoji,” the safe sex brand wrote on their global Twitter page.

While this might have been handy (tasty?) for the veggies among you, most of the internet was firmly anti-aubergine, as evidenced in these tweets:

Nick, we’d just like to point out that banana flavoured Durex already exist, in case you feel like you’re missing out.

Sadly/thankfully the whole thing turned out to be a marketing trick to try and get those emoji makers to make a condom emoji – which is a better idea than an aubergine flavoured rubber, if you ask us.
