These 5 Apps Have Got You Covered In The Sack
This week the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV’s Dr Peter Greenhouse claimed that dating apps encourage quicker turnover of sexual partners and therefore increased rates of STI’s.
“If enough people change partners quickly, and they've got other untreated sexually transmitted infections, it might just start an explosion of HIV in the heterosexual population. Apps could do that” was the doctor’s scary prediction. We’re not entirely sure our fave dating apps such as Tinder, Grindr, HER and Happn can be held solely responsible for increasing STI rates but it’s still important to stay safe when using them (or otherwise).
Thankfully, even when there’s a potential problem with apps, there’s an app for that! Here’s our rundown of our favourite apps promoting, encouraging and aiding with sexual health and safe sex:
Developed by the University of Oregon this app pretty much covers all the bases. With its nifty “when my ____ touches a ____” selection wheel you can find out all there is to know about any sexual act you can think of! With information on everything from STIs to consent, this app helps you answer any questions you may have at the touch of a button.
This app allows you to check a potential partner’s bill of health by bumping your phones together before you go home with them. If you’ve passed your STI test with flying colours, you can ask your doctor to document this on the app. It is good for peace of mind, but you should still make sure to wear a condom to maximise your safety. We’re pretty sure an app hasn’t been developed yet that can prevent pregnancy. FYI the ad for this app is AMAZING, check it out above.
My Sex Doctor
My Sex Doctor puts a sex dictionary in your pocket. If you’ve got a question or a worry on anything from flirting to the deed itself My Sex Doctor has the answers. It also has loads of great advice on sexual heath and how to be safe in the sack and is super-easy to use and understand.
Condoms are a sex essential; they’re invaluable in preventing the risk of sexual transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy. iCondom is the perfect app for making sure you don’t get caught short without that much needed protection. When things start to get hot-and-heavy nobody wants to have to spend hours searching for somewhere to get a condom, thankfully iCondom will show you the nearest place to get one to make sure you can get down to it ASAP while staying safe! (Only available on iPhone)
Because sometimes the best way to stay safe is to avoid those late night decisions altogether, Drunk Mode has drunk you covered. If you’re worried about drunk dialling someone after a night out, you can now put a stop to it before you embarrass yourself. Drunk Mode allows you to block a number for a certain period of time, so that you can contact them when you have a clearer mind. We’ve all been there.
So next time you're swiping away, make sure you take a sec to download these handy apps and stay safe out there!
