Shailene Woodley Will Sport A Pixie Cut In 'Insurgent'
“A wig would have looked quite sh**ty”, the actress said at Comic Con...
The actress told Buzzfeed during the conference that the pixie cut she was styling at the convention is the same haircut that Tris will have on screen for the new film.
“I talked to the director (Robert Schwentke) because I didn’t want to wear a wig,” she said. “I think wigs always look wiggy, especially in an action movie. We’re running so much and doing so much, I think, technically, a wig would have looked quite sh**ty.”Woodley’s short hair, of course, comes from her portrayal of Hazel Grace Lancaster in The Fault In Our Stars, which filmed after she finished Divergent. In the Insurgent book, Tris does get a haircut, but only to her jaw line.
The new blonde pixie will be a much more dramatic interpretation. However, Woodley’s co-star and Tris’ love interest Theo James definitely approves of the change.
“When I’m looking at Shai on screen, now you get a character progression in a visual way. There’s a maturity and a difference between the character here and in the first movie,” the actor commented. Woodley’s comments about wigs and heroines donning short hair come just weeks after The Hunger Games series completed filming – where Jennifer Lawrence will be dawning a dark wig as Katniss Everdeen for the last two films.
It stands to note, though, that Katniss’ long hair, tied into a braid, is a much more defining characteristic for the character in the books than Tris’ long hair is in Divergent. From the looks of the Mockingjay – Part 1 trailers, J-Law’s wig seems to be doing fine.
You can make an official comparison though when Insurgent is released early next year.
